The college is located at SujanpurTihra in Hamirpur District, a place of historical importance. The grandeur of the Dhualadhars provide a serene backdrop to the college campus At one time it was the capital of a flourishing kingdom on the bank of the river Beas, ruled by famous Maharaja Sansar Chand.
It is situated in the rural area of Hamirpur district and draws its students from the surrounding towns and villages of three districts Hamirpur, Mandi and Hamirpur. It was christened after the legendary statesman of the region Thakur Jagdev Chand.
Thakur Jagdev Chand Memorial Govt. Degree College came into being in 2001. Since its inception, the college has risen from strength to strength and has progressively made its marks as one of the leading institutions of higher learning in Himachal Pradesh. This Institution provides an ideal ambience to the students for pursuit of learning and development of personality.
The college is affiliated to the Himachal Pradesh University, Shiml a under sections 2(f) &12 (B) of UGC act and has been accredited B Grade by NAAC. Its reaccreditation process is in progress.
The college offers different undergraduate programmes in humanities, science (Med. & Non. Med) and commerce.
The college also runs self-financing courses in BBA and BCA. The highly qualified faculty of the college is imparting value based quality education in various fields. Different activities in the college such as sports, cultural, NSS, Rovers & Rangers are instrumental in channelizing and translating the strengths of the students.
Over the years the college has acquired an excellent reputation by exhibiting outstanding performance in academics, sports, cultural and co-curricular activities.
